Silversmithing with Peter Erickson
One of the Gardner Museum's many steps to preserve the memory of the city’s rich silversmithing tradition is the replicated working silver shop in our basement level. It was the shop of Ernest Lehtonen, a master craftsman who worked for Stone Associates, successors to Arthur Stone.
The demonstration is done by Peter Erickson, the grandson of one of Arthur Stone’s master craftsmen, George Erickson. Take a walk down memory lane and revisit silversmithing tradition with Gardner's last silversmith, as he handcrafts a spoon in the museum’s replica silver shop.
During the event, a unique "Erickson Silver" ring will be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
